It's All In A Name

To hear the members of HEBRON ROAD in conversation, it’s clear to see their history runs deep; to hear them sing together, however, you recognize it’s more than a longtime friendship…they have a vocal blend that sounds like FAMILY!

Alan Monk and Rick Briscoe met while in college at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR. Alan, a well-established college junior at the time, heard a fresh-faced new student sing at the annual freshman  talent show, and later approached him. Rick remembers that it went something along the lines of, “Hey, I’m a singer too. We should sing together sometime.” And, so, they did.

They considered themselves brothers and after their college years they both stayed in close contact.

Alan took the business world route and Rick remained in the music industry, singing with the Contemporary Christian group TRUTH. Rick eventually followed his calling as a worship leader, serving at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. When he heard of an opening in the church finance and administration department, he floated the idea to Alan, who was working as an accountant in Arkansas. Alan had felt the Lord moving him to seek a more meaningful and ministerial career, so he moved his family – wife, Diwana, and sons, Jarrod and Jordan, to Texas assuming the position of Executive Director of Administration at Prestonwood. At the time, Rick and his wife, Barbi, and their two children, Bethany and Brandon were greatly involved at Prestonwood.

Jarrod, then only 12, says the Briscoes were the only people they knew at Prestonwood when they arrived, but they quickly got connected. Alan joined the Adult Choir and sang on the Worship Team. Jarrod loved singing in the Student Choir led by Rick. He was a mainstay in the Prestonwood Christian Academy theater productions, and after graduation followed in his parents’ footsteps, attending Ouachita Baptist University. But when Scott Bullman, director of the renowned Sounds of Liberty heard him sing at Prestonwood, he invited Jarrod to join the group. Jarrod transferred to Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Later, he, too, became a vocalist on TRUTH’s 40th Anniversary Tour, and ultimately moved his wife, Lauren, to Texas to take a job in the Media Ministry at Prestonwood. Jarrod has 2 children, Sophie and Tucker.

For more than a decade, the three have helped lead the church in worship.

Fast forward -  Alan, Rick and Jarrod sang the musical feature,  “O Holy Night” as a trio in the church’s 'Gift of Christmas' – a Broadway-like, spectacular production with 14 shows, drawing some 75,000+ people annually. The trio's appearance  became a repeated feature every year and was also highlighted  in the 2020 Prestonwood Christmas television broadcast, A Joyous Hope,  viewed by hundreds of thousands all over the world.

Little did they know, when performing together as a Christmas trio, a new vocal ministry - HEBRON ROAD - would soon become official.

With encouragement and support from their Pastor, Dr. Jack Graham as well as from Lead Worship Pastor, Michael Neale - Hebron Road began to lead more frequently as an official trio and quickly started work on their first recording project, a long-held dream for each of them.  They always loved singing and ministering together and wanted to be good stewards of their gifts and new ministry opportunity at Prestonwood and beyond.

In addition to regular Prestonwood services and The Gift of Christmas, this modern inspirational trio has now sung in various churches, events and most recently at the iconic Grand Ole Opry - receiving accolade.

“Hebron Road wants to be obedient to what God has called and entrusted  us to do.  It's our prayer we would be used most effectively for His Glory,” Alan said.  “We love The Church and have a calling to encourage and equip God’s Church in WORSHIP,” Rick added.

When it came to deciding on a name for the trio, it was truly a God-thing, they said.

“I was driving down Hebron Road (adjacent to Prestonwood’s Plano Campus) and it struck me,” Rick said.  We each love our church and considering the historical and biblical significance of  the name Hebron, it all made sense. Ironically, an easement of the historic Texas township of Hebron stretches across the church property, quite possibly running right through where the worship center pulpit is now placed.

The biblical  location of the city Hebron, just 19 miles south of Jerusalem, has a long and rich history. It was at Hebron where the Lord first showed Abram the land for he and his offspring,  where Abraham and Sarah were buried and where David was crowned King. Biblical scholars define the word Hebron to mean "face to face" or "in the presence of God".  The Hebrew word  for Hebron is derived from the word, FRIEND.  How appropriate - these three men have shared a friendship  for decades!

HEBRON ROAD is now in the fast lane for expanded musical and ministry opportunity as they powerfully lead each and every listener into the presence of God!
